Detectives in Staffordshire are asking the public for help in tracing a man wanted for questioning in connection with an attempted murder following an incident in Burton on Monday evening.
Rehan Akhtar, aged 27, is wanted in connection with the incident, in which a local 49-year-old man was involved in a collision with a car and had sustained very serious injuries. The vehicle left the scene.
Chief Inspector Steve Maskrey, Commander of the East Staffordshire Local Policing Team, said: “We have a number of active lines of inquiry to trace Mr Akhtar, but I urge the public to call us with any information which would lead to his arrest.
“This is a fast moving investigation and the three men arrested last night will be questioned through the day by a team of experienced detectives from our Major Investigation Department.
“A detailed forensic examination is also taking place of a vehicle recovered yesterday afternoon in the Burton area and we continue to appeal to anyone with information to get in touch.
“The injured man remains in hospital in a critical, but stable, condition and specially trained family liaison officers continue to offer support to his family.”
Anyone with information about the location of Rehan Akhtar, or if any residents have any concerns, should call Staffordshire Police on 101 or the independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. All calls will be treated in confidence.
