Appeal for witnesses following fatal collision on the A500

At around 4.45 am on Saturday 22nd August 2015 emergency services were called to the  southbound carriageway of the A500 at Cliffe Vale, where a green Vauxhall Vectra had been in collision with a white articulated goods vehicle.

Sadly, two passengers from the Vauxhall, both  22 year old males from the North Staffordshire area, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the HGV was uninjured. A 23 year old male has been arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries.

The road remained closed for 7 hours whilst specialist officers from the Regional Collision Investigation Unit examined the scene. The families of both deceased passengers have been notified and will be supported by specially trained Family Liaison Officers. We ask that their privacy be respected and that others do not speculate as to the cause of the collision or refer to those involved.

Witnesses are asked to contact P.c. Brian Lovatt and P.c. Andy Hogan-Hughes at the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference 181.
