Man arrested following double fatal collision on the A500

A man in his twenties is in police custody this morning as police investigate a fatal collision on the A500. Police are still at the scene of the collision which involved a car and a HGV whilst a detailed examination of the scene is completed.

The incident occurred 4.45am on the southbound carriageway between the A53 junction (Etruria) and Stoke Road. There were four males in their twenties all from the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent areas, sadly colleagues from ambulance confirmed that two had died and specially trained family liaison officers are working now to inform and support family members. A third male was treated for minor injuries and a forth male from the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
