Incident on A38


Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager has died following an incident on the A38 earlier today, Thursday.

Officers were called to the A38 northbound carriageway, between Branston and Clay Mills, at approximately 12.30pm and found a teenage girl with critical injuries.

The 17-year-old was airlifted to hospital after being in collision with a HGV but has now sadly died. It is believed she was on a footbridge over the A38 just before the incident.

Ch Insp Steve Maskrey, commander of East Staffordshire Local Policing Team, said: “A full and detailed investigation is now underway to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened.

“The teenager’s family are being supported by specially trained officers at this very difficult time.

“I would ask anyone who was on the A38 at the time, or in the local area, and who may have seen this girl to contact us on 101.”

Witnesses are asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 267 of September 10.

We are currently investigating the circumstances of how a 17-year-old female came to be involved in a collision on the A38 between Branston and Clay Mills.

The female was in collision with a HGV on the northbound carriageway at approximately 12.30pm today. It is believed the female was on a footbridge over the A38 just before the incident.
She has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
The northbound carriageway remains closed but the southbound carriageway has now reopened.
An examination of the scene is currently being carried out by officers.
The female’s family have been informed.
