We are now in a position to name the teenager who died following an incident on the A38 on Thursday 10 September.
She has been formally identified as Helena Markey, aged 17, from the Belvedere area of Burton.
A full and detailed investigation is now underway to establish the exact circumstances of what happened yesterday and a report will be prepared for HM Coroner.
Officers were called to the A38 northbound carriageway, between Branston and Clay Mills, at approximately 12.30pm.
Helena was found with critical injuries and airlifted to hospital after being in collision with a HGV but sadly died. It is believed she was on a footbridge over the A38 just before the incident.
Helena’s family are being supported by specially trained officers at this very difficult time.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 267 of September 10.
The family have requested they are not contacted by the media. They wish to be left alone to grieve in private.
