On the afternoon of Sunday 19 July the man (pictured) approached a woman on Tesco car park, Trent Vale, Stoke-on-Trent and distracted her by asking for directions.
The 76-year-old was later alerted to possible fraudulant activity by her bank and discovered her bank cards had been stolen.
Her cards had been used to buy a £1,000 watch from Beaverbrooks in Hanley and cash withdrawals from two ATM’s totalling almost £500.
The man is described as having olive skin and speaking with an Italian-sounding accent.
He is 5ft 10in tall, with a slim build, short dark hair and aged in his late 20s. The man was wearing dark-coloured clothing.
