Police investigate disorder at Vale Park

Police will be reviewing police video, club CCTV and body worn video following disorder at Vale Park on Saturday, to identify individuals involved in the disorder.

Disorder occurred as small numbers of supporters from both clubs attempt to clash with each other near to the coach park. The police officers on duty for the fixture supported the club stewarding operation by forming lines between the groups to prevent the disorder becoming more serious. We are now able to confirm that the injury caused to the Special Constable was not related to the disorder at the ground and she is recovering from a sprained ankle.

Supt. Wayne Jones from Staffordshire Police said “There were no reported incidents of disorder in the run up to the match with both sets of fans behaving well.  During the game the stewards ejected two people from Port Vale sections of the ground without the need for policing support.  The incidents post-match were quickly dealt with by the police and stewards working together and the male arrested for affray and assault from the Sheffield area has been released on police bail pending further enquiries taking place. This morning I attended a productive meeting with the club safety officer and we continue to work closely with the club ahead of the next few matches.”
