APPEAL: Did you witness a fatal collision near Lichfield?

We’re appealing for witnesses after a road traffic collision on the northbound carriageway of the A38 between Weeford and Swinfin.

The collision happened just before 10.55am on Thursday 8 October and involved a pedestrian and HGV.

Sadly, despite best efforts of police officers and passing motorists who carried out CPR until ambulance staff arrived, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man has not yet been formally identified but his family have been informed and are being offered support from specially trained officers.

The northbound carriageway of the A38 remained closed until around 2pm while specially trained officers carried out a detailed investigation at the scene. The southbound carriageway was also closed for some time to allow emergency services access to the casualty.

We’d like to thank motorists for their patience while the closures and diversions were in place.

If you witnessed the collision please contact PC Andy Hogan-Hughes at the Regional Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting incident number 211 of October 8.
