At around 1.05am today, Tuesday 24 November, officers on routine patrol came across a vehicle in the Great Wyrley area. Seemingly on seeing the police car the vehicle made off and was lost.
A short while later, at around 1.50am, the vehicle seen again but this time in Wolverhampton Road, Essington. Patrols attempted to stop the vehicle but it made off and was pursued into Blackhalve Lane where it was in collision with a street lamp, causing minor damage. The occupants were uninjured.
Officers carried out a search of the vehicle and upon discovering suspicious items the occupants, five men aged between 19 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft. Two of the men were also arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis.
The men, who are all from the West Midlands area, remain in custody for questioning.
