Motorists in Stoke-on-Trent are being urged to keep their vehicles locked at all times.
In recent weeks offender/s have stolen a variety of items from vehicles parked up in the Florence, Lightwood and Trentham areas of Stoke South Local Policing Team (LPT).
In the majority of cases the vehicles had been left insecure with valuables inside – an open invitation to opportunist thieves.
More than 10 vehicles have had items stolen from them, including a sat nav; cash; an i-Pad; a mobile phone; a wallet and sunglasses.
An investigation into the thefts is ongoing by local neighbourhood officers and high visibility patrols have been increased in the areas.
Officers are actively talking to motorists about their vehicle security and checking what items may be left on display in vehicles.
Vehicles with shopping on view are easy pickings for opportunist thieves. If you are taking shopping back to your vehicle before doing more shopping, be aware of who is around you – make sure no one is watching what you are doing. Put shopping out-of-sight in the boot and check your vehicle is locked.
If you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles please call Staffordshire Police on 101, or the independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
As part of the ongoing investigation officers have arrested and charged a man.
The 21-year-old, from Stoke-on-Trent, has been charged with two counts of vehicle interference following incidents on November 26. He is due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle on January 7.
