Appeal following fatal collision on A38 near Burton

UPDATE 5pm: Police are investigating the circumstances which lead to a male pedestrian being involved in a fatal collision with a car on the A38 near Burton-on-Trent at around 1.40pm on Monday 28 December 2015.

Emergency services attended the location in Branston near to the Gate Inn pub, the collision was on the southbound carriageway. Sadly the man involved sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.

Specialist collision investigators have conducted a detailed forensic investigation at the scene and recovered the car involved. The two occupants of the car have been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Officers are working to inform the family of the man involved and provide support during this difficult time. Any witnesses are urged to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 368 of 28th December.

We are expecting the road to fully reopen around 7pm after colleagues from highways finish their work following the police investigation. Motorists are urged to find alternative routes and expect delays until this work is completed.

UPDATE 2pm: The Southbound A38 near Burton-on-Trent will remain closed for the next few hours whilst specialist collision investigators examine the scene of a serious collision between a pedestrian and car.

The incident occurred at around 1:40pm near the Gate Inn Pub and any witnesses are urged to contact the Collision Investigation Unit by calling Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident 368.

Traffic is urged to avoid the area and find an alternative route.
