Footie fans asked if witnessed racial attack


Police are investigating a racially-motivated attack on a football supporter near to the Stoke City stadium on Tuesday, January 5.

The incident occurred shortly after 10pm in Stanley Matthews Way after the Stoke City v Liverpool match.

A black man walking along the pavement was subjected to a racially-motivated assault by the occupants of a vehicle that mounted the kerb behind him. The occupants got out of the vehicle, racially abused him and threw bottles at him.

The 48-year-old man was shaken but not injured.

Officers believe the incident was witnessed by many other supporters walking along the road and that some may have recorded it on their mobile phones.

The vehicle is described as dark in colour and of a larger type.
