Residents warned about bogus officials in Norton Canes


Police are warning residents to be on their guard after an elderly resident in Norton Canes, Cannock was pressurised into handing over cash to a man claiming to be from the council.

He called at her home on High Street shortly before 11am today, Tuesday January 12, asking for money to repair a fence.

He followed her into her home and watched her taking a large amount of cash from her purse. He then made off with the money.

The woman was unhurt but badly shaken.

The man is described as a tall white male of biggish build and wearing a black puffa jacket and a black baseball cap.

Officers are investigating and are urging residents to be vigilant against callers to their home.

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 183 of January 12.
